Painting the tree house with watercolor

Today I painted the treehouse I inked yesterday. I planned to use the Tom Purvis palette (pasted to the bottom of yesterday’s picture), but I didn’t get that done. In this painting I used my Daniel Smith Ultimate Mixing Palette. The exact colors of the Purvis could be mixed, but I just eyeballed every color. I use several blues: Ultramarine, Cerulean Blue Chrome, and Phthalo Blue (GS), Quinac Gold for the treehouse and highlights in the trees, Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber for the tree trunk and branches, and some Jane’s gray for the shadows of the trees. My mixing effort was all about trying to get dark greens and browns.
The lesson I got from doing this painting is to use separate sheets of watercolor paper rather use a bound sketchbook. I used a Strathmore Bristol table, 9x12, which is about an inch too tall and an inch too wide for my scanner. I scanned the painting in pass then assembled them in Photoshop. A real pain but it looks okay.
Overall I love this picture. I can see many improvements in my drawing and painting. It’s a good feeling.
