Al Fresco Art Club Challenge, July 19, 2020: Pen and Watercolor

My interpretation of Yoshifumi Kondo’s concept sketch for Studio Ghibli’s “Kiki’s Delivery Service”

Today’s Al Fresco Art Club Challenge was to use traditional media to paint something that we would usually do digitally. I chose to paint my Jimmy Jay character as he might appear in Yoshifumi Kondo’s concept sketch on page 25 of The Art of Kiki’s Delivery Service.

I’m really enjoying these pen and watercolor sessions. Working loosely suits my temperament. Once I complete my Jimmy Jay series, I’m totally open to using pen and watercolor for future comics and picture books.
