This is my third attempt at page 41. I’ll be making more changes to this one. I’m not crazy about the color dodge glow around the characters. The glow is supposed to make them stand out from the background, but it looks cheesy. I’ll tone that down in the next revision.

I now realize that my most time consuming error was caused by using an anti-aliased inking brush. Even though I set the brush to zero anti-aliasing, the brush tip itself contained gray pixels. When the pen lays down the line, it lays down gray pixels which cause problems when I use the selection and bucket tools to create flats. Because of the grayscale brush tip there are hundreds of white pixels that I have to repaint. The lesson is that line inking brushes should always be black and white only. Live and learn.
