Al Fresco Art Challenge, Jan 5, 2020 -- Colored Pencil and A5 Sketchbook

This week we bought a couple of A5 sketchbooks. The price was right — two 256-page sketchbooks for less than $20. The cover is made of removable craft paper. The paper has perfect tooth for sketching with graphite, colored pencils, and ink. To test the ability to handle ink I used my Rotring ink in a brush pen with no problem with bleeding through. I’m sure that Copic markers won’t work on this paper. The ink is visible through the pages, so I’ll be drawing on the right-hand page only. The really nice thing is that this sketchbook folds flat — great for scanning.

Today’s challenge was to use the new sketchbooks for something new.. I chose colored pencils and donkeys. I’ve never drawn donkeys, but I’ll be doing a lot of donkey sketches for my next book. Donkeys are immensely charming and have great eyes and ears.
