Pages 58 and 59 Again

Today I moved the volcano demon’s head a little to the left to correct the awkward perspective, added some white noise to disrupt the unnatural smoothness of her shirt, and added more grass to page 59.

As for page 59, I have to work on the volcano demon in the foreground. The demon is surveying the damage she has to repair if she wants to have friends.

Dialing Back the Background

faded_background_blog.png, dialing down, editing, Clip Studio Paint

After spending hours creating a detailed background, I became weary and frustrated with twiddling with the infinite details that I had generated with each revision. There were the insane rivets on the hull of the airplane, the spectral reflections on the windows, the shadow and reflected light on the bottom of the plane. Whoa! Stop!

My solution was just to fade out the background and focus on the characters. Happiness!

Painting in Krita for the First TIme

I’ve decided to do all of my painting using Krita, which means that I’ll be doing my painting on my desktop computers, and eventually on my Linux setup. I started using Krita by editing a picture that needs to be squared to fit into the print version of my book. This particular image is quite a mess. Momma Jay’s body and arms are truncated and, for some unknown reason, I changed the color palette for this image and Momma Jay’s pink hair and hot pink accents are too saturated. I’ll have to do some repainting. I will also extend the picture downward to add more of her arms. It’s a work in progress and I’ll be completing this do-over tomorrow.

This is the original image…
