My eBook Is Published

Today I completed the ePub 3 version of my children’s picture book. I started in December, 2019, and finished January 10, 2020. I was fully employed at a square job for the first year, and for the last two weeks I have been worked full-time as a writer and artist. The ePub needs one more visual inspection by Ingramspark and the publishing process will be complete. Since this is a fixed format eBook, Ingramspark will distribute it only to Apple Books and Kobo. I’m okay with that — in my mind I’ve released the book and it’s now out in the world. I wish it well!

And now, it’s time to move on to writing and drawing my next book.

Today’s sketch was inspired by Yujiro Koyama. I’m loving my freehand “speed” lines.

I Just Published "The Jaybird That Jumped Down A Chimney"

At last, the children’s picture book I’ve been working on for the last year is published. It was a chaotic dash to meet my deadline. This morning I opened InDesign and got the notice: YOUR SUBSCRIPTION HAS EXPIRED. I created a new account and continued working away. When the time came to submit the PDF files, I couldn’t find the cover page PDF because I’m so disorganized. I enlisted my wonderful wife’s help and she found more typos, and then she helped me with some InDesign problems (she’s a professional InDesign ninja). Finally, at 6:30 PM PST, I pushed the PUBLISH button and the files passed safely through Ingramspark’s initial automated validation. Hooray!

I’ll know in a few days if the book passes through the second stage of validation, and when it does, I’ll have a proof copy to inspect.

This has been an exciting project, and I have plans for more books about Jimmy Jay and his friends in the next year. Perhaps I’ll be at least a little more organized. All in all, this was a great way to start the New Year.
