Adding Text to the Prologue Page

The prologue helps introduce the characters

I’ve been puzzled about how to introduce the names of the characters. When I created the pictures and dialog, I blithely assumed that the reader would know the names of my characters because they had already read my first book. That’s a funny assumption, since I’ve sold only one or two copies. I’m hoping that adding a prologue will make the names clear for the reader. I know that it would be best if the names were introduced organically in the dialogue, but I’ve decided not to do a major overhaul at this point. I’m thinking that this cake is baked. It’s okay to move on to the next one.

Frontmatter Update: Introducing the Main Characters

Rather than draw four new character pictures for the frontmatter, I decided to use existing images. I picked four of the more expressive pictures for the blank page opposite the half-title page. I’m still working of the background colors. I’ll add text to introduce the characters.

The Title Page Is Finished...Unless I Decide to Change It

At last I’ve got this drawing finished. The word “finished” means I may be overcome by an uncontrollable urge to make major changes at any moment. Now that I think of it, I might place the border patrol car on top of the wall. But for now, this image is okay with me, and that means that I’ll move on to the cover image tomorrow.
